Although what's there is fabulous, there isn't a lot of accommodation offered on St. John, making it more commonly a day trip for those visiting other US Virgin Islands. Cruz Bay is the main town, and Mongoose Junction is a picturesque shopping and strolling crossroads. A U.S. outpost, St. John is easy to navigate on one's own.
